Fight for Earth

"I think the environment should be put in the category of our national security. Defense of our resources is just as important as defense abroad. Otherwise what is there to defend?" ~Robert Redford, Yosemite National Park dedication, 1985

For Americans (and as an American I can really only fairly speak for this nation and not other cultures) - we are proud of our power and influence over the world. We like to show off in big SUV's; big homes; big buildings; big armies; and most influentially - BIG EGOS!

And don't get me wrong, I get the appeal of driving in a nice luxury vehicle and who doesn't dream of living in a mansion that could really house 30 people? I get that appeal. But what we may be taking for granted is the cost of such living. The cost of such luxury. We treat this cost like our credit system; like it can be paid back at a later time with interest compounded.

How will we pay back Mother Nature? Once we've reached our credit limit and there is nothing left for natural resources... how do we remedy our greed? How do we enjoy our big cars with no gas or our big homes without electricity?
