Super Easy Cereal Bars

I'm a Nation of Inspiration presents The EASIEST homemade peanut butter bars. I'm not sure if it's health food or dessert because it is delicious and full of protein and carbs. Very easy to stray from this recipe and be creative. I did. In fact the original recipe I found online called for corn syrup and lots of sugar. My alternative? Honey! I used Frosted Shredded Mini Wheats as the cereal base, but any cereal should do just fine. Make it with Fruit Loops for the kids! Why not?

1/2 cup of honey
1 cup of peanut butter (chunky or smooth)
3 cups of cereal (your favorite kind); or 3 cups of "substance" (create your own!)
4 squares of baking chocolate

Heat honey and peanut butter together in a small sauce pan over low heat. Stir together until smooth and creamy and just a little bit runny. If you chose a chunky cereal (Frosted Mini Wheats for example) crush up into smaller pieces. Pour melted honey and peanut butter over cereal and mix until cereal is thoroughly coated. Press cereal mixture evenly into greased 9x9 pan. Melt baking chocolate in same small saucepan, stirring constantly until completely melted. Pour evenly over cereal bars and let cool until hardened. Wait until completely cooled before cutting.

Some ideas for "substance" (combinations should end up equally 3 cups):
Raisins
Dried Cranberries
Granola
Cherrios
Almonds

Be creative and enjoy!
